6:00 - 7:30 PM DPLS Quarterly Meeting
Speakers: Kim Fahlen & Karen Scanlon
Co-Authors of new "Images of America" book
Presentation Topic: "Lighthouses of San Diego"
KIM FAHLEN and her twin sister KAREN SCANLON will be discussing
their new book, Lighthouses
of San Diego.
Kim, who is an Honorary Member of DPLS, travels
throughout the US and Europe studying and photographing
lighthouses, with particular interest in their optics.
Karen successfully located a few of San Diego’s former
lighthouse-keeper families who have offered very rich firsthand
accounts of their lives in lighthouses.
Both Kim and Karen volunteer at Cabrillo National Monument
tending to its lighthouse lenses and acting as Docents for tours
of the Old Point Loma Lighthouse.
They have both contributed to the journals of Maritime Museum of
San Diego and the U.S. Lighthouse Society.
They also assist the U.S. Coast Guard and the Lighthouse
Lamp Shop with the care and restoration of lighthouse lenses.
The talented twins will be presenting information from their
book, which was published under the series, “Images of America”.
They will discuss Richard Henry Dana’s second voyage and
his delight in seeing a lighthouse to guide his ship as he
returned to California.
Copies of their book will be available for sale and they
would be most happy to personally sign them.
They might be a very enjoyable and educational Christmas
gift for your family members or yourself.
